2017 Ghost Town Sprint Triathlon & 5k

YEE HAW! Welcome to the 2017 Ghost Town Sprint Triathlon & 5k run – The PERFECT way to kick-off your triathlon season.  We are excited to be moving back to our original location at the Pratt Aquatic Center in Tooele, Utah!

The sprint distance triathlon consists of a 300 yard swim, 13 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run.

Join us after the race for overall and age-group awards, random prizes from our sponsors, and post race food!

Every participant receives a sweet Ghost Town race T-shirt, Cowboy hat, chip timing, oversized finisher medal, and post race food.


The swim is 300 yards with athletes starting single file, jumping feet first, one at a time, and swimming 50 yards, then crossing lanes.

The 13 mile Bike Course is a fun, 3-loop, 13 mile spectator friendly course!

The 5k Run Course is an out and back run though the neighborhoods of Tooele.

Thursday, April 20, 6-8pm  – Packet Pickup at Wasatch Running Center in Sandy, Utah.  6-8pm. 316 North Marketplace Drive, Centerville, Utah.


Saturday, April 22th – RACE DAY!!

6:30am – Packet Pick-up, Transition Opens, Timing Chip Pickup – race venue

7:30am - Pre Race Meeting in Transition Area

7:45am – Transition Closes

8:00am - OFFICIAL RACE START for  both 5k and triathlon

9:00am – 5k awards

10:00am – Triathlon Awards

Every finisher will receive a sweet Ghost Town T-shirt, Cowboy Hat, finisher medal, post race meal, drinks, music, and great post race atmosphere!

Aid Stations

Aid stations will be located at the exit of the transition area, and at every mile on the run course. There will not be an aid station on the bike course. Each athlete will receive a bottle of water and food at the finish line.


Awards will be given to the top three overall winners of the race, as well as the top three finishers in each age group.

Age group categories include: 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, etc. as well as Clydesdale & Athena.

All finishers will receive a custom designed finisher medal!

Body marking

This year, you will have numbered tattoos in your packet. Place your tattoo on your arms prior to race start.

Inclement Weather

In case of inclement weather, TriUtah reserves the right to modify or cancel any portion or all of the event if athlete safety is compromised.


Litter could jeopardize the life of this and any other event. Please do not litter and dispose of all trash in proper receptacles. Per USA Triathlon rules, you may receive a time penalty for littering on the race course.

Relay Teams

Relay teams will be issued a single timing chip, bike number, and run bib number. The chip hand-off takes place inside the transition area at the assigned bike rack. You must attach the bike number provided in your race packet to your bike. It has an adhesive backing that will not cause damage to your bike frame. Failure to secure the bike number will result in a USAT time penalty. You DO NOT need to wear the bib number during the bike. However, it MUST be worn during the run.


Results will be posted TriUtah’s website the day after the race.


Medical personnel will provide on-site first aid and medical assistance if needed.


Electronic chip timing of the event will be provided by Sportstats. visit their site at sportstats.ca. All participants will be timed and will be provided with their swim, bike and run splits, as well as their overall finish time. Instructions for chip use will be provided in your race packet.

Transition Area

PARTICIPANTS ONLY IN TRANSITION! There will be a single transition area. You will have an assigned rack location and bikes will be racked according to bib number with 6~8 bikes per rack (3-4 on each side). Your front bike tire should face out from the side of the rack where your nametag is located. If possible, rack your bike by placing the nose of your seat on the bike rack. There is no bike riding inside the transition area before or during the event. Doing so will result in a time penalty enforced by the USA Triathlon officials.

Water/Aid Stations

Aid stations will be located every mile on the run. Aid stations include water and Six Nutrition Electrolyte drinks. There will be no aid stations on the bike.
